| Connection - Nonviolent Communication
Human communication is a complex skill. So much depends upon it, so much of our time is spent trying to achieve it, and so often our best efforts fall short.
Significant improvements in communication and mutual understanding can occur simply by understanding how human information processing works.
With the “I Opt” assessment of information processing styles, we can achieve that understanding. We can see at a glance why certain combinations of people struggle to find common ground while others just “click,” why a team sailed through one phase of a project and got bogged down in another, why some problems persist and what to do to get things back on track.
That understanding opens the way to more authentic conversations and the practice of communication strategies that work for all concerned.
Talking About What's Real
In addition to understanding how human information processing works, great improvements in communication can come from learning to express ourselves authentically without judgment and to listen with empathy and accuracy. This way of speaking and listening can cut through mixed messages that are often the reason why we convey something that is not what we intended, or hear something that was not what was meant.
Being aware of how human information processing works, speaking authentically without blame or judgment, and listening with empathy even when we disagree, can make human communication a "win-win" game.
Outcomes: • Gain insight into what’s going on and why • Have real conversations without fear or finger pointing • Focus on fixing problems rather than arguing about their existence
